Edward Mott
Managing Partner
Edward co-founded Oxford Capital in 1999 with the intent of broadening the access to private equity to wealthy families and corporations around the world as well as to institutional investors. He chairs the Investment Committee at Oxford Capital. With over 30 years of experience as a business leader, practical manager, investor and company director, Ted has worked with both mature listed businesses and younger high growth companies across a multitude of sectors. He has also been actively involved in a wide range of infrastructure projects. Following an early career in the US with Corning Glass Inc. where he was involved with the first commercialisation of fibre optics, he then pursued a career in investment banking with American, European and Asian banks in corporate finance, emerging markets and structured finance, before heading HSBC’s capital markets division based in Hong Kong. He later served the wealth manager GAM in London with responsibility for both institutional and private clients before founding Oxford Capital. Ted is a graduate of the University of Cambridge and an INSEAD MBA and is fluent in French and German. Ted is also a keen sailor and gardener.

David Mott
Managing Partner
David co-founded Oxford Capital. David leads the firm’s investment and portfolio management activities across both growth capital and infrastructure investments. During his career as an investment manager, he has led numerous investment and exit transactions, including both IPOs and acquisitions. His investment focus is on the digital media, mobile and sustainability sectors. He previously worked with Result Ventures where he specialised in supporting technology companies in their international expansion. Prior to this he worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers in corporate finance. His early career was as an equity analyst with Jardine Fleming in Asia and later with Deloitte & Touche in London where he trained as an accountant. David has a BA in Economics and Japanese from the University of Durham and speaks French, German and Japanese. David is a passionate collector of contemporary art, avid competitor in triathlons and polar marathon runner.

Andrew Sherlock
Partner
Andrew has over 15 years of experience in quoted smaller companies with Cazenove, Goldman Sachs and latterly as a Managing Director at Dresdner Kleinwort, where he was Head of Small Cap Equities and responsible for all aspects of research and sales. Previously Andrew qualified as a chartered accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers and subsequently worked for a number of years in industry with Mars in Russia and Procter & Gamble in the UK. Andrew read Economics and Politics at the University of Durham. He enjoys travel, theatre and sport.

Colin Watts
Partner
Colin is responsible for investments in the information and communications sectors. He brings to the team a combination of deep market knowledge gained in the telecoms industry and extensive international transactional experience gained as a corporate investor and as a partner of two international venture capital firms. Previously Colin has held investment management positions with Cisco Systems Inc, DFJ ePlanet and TLcom Capital where he invested over $80 million across 12 companies in Europe and Israel. This portfolio achieved 4 IPO’s and 6 M&A transactions worth in excess of $4.5bn. Colin graduated from Nottingham University with first class honours in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Colin has sailed across the Atlantic.

David Brister
Operating Partner
David assists with new investments and contributes to the development of portfolio companies with a focus on healthcare and life sciences. David has over 20 years experience in both private equity and in operational roles and was instrumental in the successful development of venture capital businesses at 3i and MVM. During that time he was responsible for many successful investments and exits including Cambridge Antibody Technology (listed in 1997 and acquired by AstraZeneca for £702m), Acambis (listed in 1995 and acquired by Sanofi Pasteur for £276m) and Oxford GlycoSciences (listed in 1998 and acquired by Celltech for £102m) and was chairman of Domantis (acquired by GlaxoSmithKline for £230m). More recently he was Chief Business Officer and a member of the executive management team that transformed Evotec (listed on NASDAQ and the Frankfurt Stock Exchange) through a series of M&A transactions. David is currently Chairman or Non-Executive Director of several high growth life science and technology companies. David holds a BSc in Genetics & Zoology from Sheffield University.

Alex Tancock
Operating Partner, Asia Office
Alex is an Operating Partner at Oxford Capital and assists with the firm’s Chinese and Asian activities. Based in Hong Kong, his role is primarily focused on business development activities for both portfolio companies and servicing investors in Oxford Capital’s funds. Alex is an experienced entrepreneur and business operator with extensive experience in the Asian markets and a track record of building value for European companies expanding into the region. Most recently Alex has been the project manager of Asia’s first offshore wind farm development and has advised on over £1bn of renewable energy investments across the Asia-Pacific Region. He graduated from Imperial College with a BSc in Theoretical Physics and holds an ACCA Diploma in Financial Management.

Charlie von Schmieder
Operating Partner
Charlie's primary responsibility at Oxford Capital is the renewable and energy efficiency focussed Oxford Capital Infrastructure EIS. He has supported start-ups, established corporates, housing associations and private equity investors in renewable energy matters such as market analysis, business development, investment returns, project implementation and intellectual property strategies and licensing. Recently Charlie successfully project managed the construction of several commercial scale rooftop solar photovoltaic systems and worked as business development manager with a €100m turnover solar PV company establishing its UK office. He graduated from Trinity College Dublin with a BA in Science of Materials and holds an MBA with distinction from INSEAD.

Sir Martin Smith
Non-Executive Director
Martin has been involved in investment management and investment banking for over 30 years. He founded and later chaired the investment banking and private equity firm Phoenix Securities. After the sale of Phoenix, he became chairman of DLJ’s European Investment Banking Group. He subsequently co-founded New Star Asset Management and was a senior advisor to Bain Capital. He is currently chairman of GP Bullhound and co-founder of Beaumont Partners. His family Foundation has created and endowed the Smith School for Enterprise and the Environment at Oxford University. Martin has a wide variety of interests in the Arts.

James Witter
Non-Executive Director
James joined the Board of Oxford Capital at the beginning of 2013 and contributes broad experience of the institutional capital and private equity markets in Europe and around the world. Following a 15 year career with Dresdner Kleinwort Benson merchant bank in London in origination and utilities financing, James became a managing director with Merrill Lynch International before joining Nomura International as Director of Private Equity Capital Markets. Since 2007 he has served SVG Advisers, an affiliate of the Schroders Group and a subsidiary of SVG Capital plc, as a member of the Executive Management Committee and Head of Investment Advisory and Solutions. James read Natural Sciences at Cambridge University and won an MBA at the London Business School. He is a Cambridge Rowing Blue and active sportsman.

Robin Hill
Director
Robin is a member of the Investment Committee. He is a chartered accountant and an experienced executive, director, consultant and company doctor, specialising in advising companies in change situations, most recently including high technology companies in the communications and digital equipment industries. He has led an international career in the USA, Europe and Australia. He was President of Spembly Inc in California, a US medical devices company, for which he built the North American marketing operation. He has since been Special Adviser to a large digital media company, Director of the Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, CFO of a major international professional services firm and Adviser to World Bank projects. Outside the office Robin is a history scholar.

Åsa Blidegård
Investment Adviser, Swiss Office
Åsa is responsible for building and supporting Oxford Capital's relationships with international investors. A specialist in biotechnology and healthcare, Åsa previously gained experience in marketing technology management and healthcare as Director of Medtronic and Serono International, and went on to be Director of Arlington Group Limited, in the UK, where she established Arlington Diversified Capital. Åsa graduated from the University of Lund and later gained an MBA from Cranfield University, enabling her to combine scientific expertise with business insight.

Simon Mansfield
Investment Adviser
Simon is an Investment Adviser to Oxford Capital and a member of the Investment Committee. Following a successful career with Goldman Sachs, Simon now manages an international portfolio of private and public equity, bonds and venture capital investments through his firm, SM Investments. He also provides consultancy and board services to a number of companies. Simon was a Partner at Goldman Sachs where he was co-head of the European Special Situations Group (ESSG), responsible for proprietary investments including a large portfolio of turnaround, venture capital and private equity investments, throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa. Simon joined Goldman Sachs in 1999 in Fixed Income, Currency and Commodities to set up a broker-dealer of distressed bank debt and bonds. In 2003 he co-founded the ESSG. During his earlier career, Simon worked as a managing director for Bankers Trust Company heading up distressed trading in Asia and Japan. Simon earned a degree in civil engineering from Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge University

Oliver Hughes
Senior Investment Manager, Infrastructure
Oliver is responsible for leading infrastructure investments at Oxford Capital. Oliver has been working in the finance industry for over 15 years. He started his career with Baring Brothers and consequently ING Barings. After an initial period based in London, Oliver spent over 10 years in Asia focusing primarily on the structured finance markets, developing and designing complex asset backed transaction structures in a variety of asset classes and new legal jurisdictions. While continuing to maintain a focus on the structured finance side of the markets, more recently, Oliver has been actively developing renewable assets with a specific focus on Solar PV and Wind. Oliver has a degree in Zoology from Oxford University and is a keen sailor, cyclist and triathlete in his spare time.

Alastair Stewart
Investment Manager
Alastair is responsible for sourcing, executing and monitoring investments in the TMT and cleantech sectors. He has over six years' experience investing in growth-stage technology companies. Prior to joining Oxford Capital Alastair worked in the technology division of mobile operator O2. Alastair is a Chartered MCSI and holds an Engineering degree from Magdalen College, Oxford, where he spent a great deal of time rowing and also made an appearance on University Challenge. In his spare time he enjoys photography and playing the piano.

Sebastian Miller
Investment Associate
Sebastian is part of the investment management team, sourcing and screening opportunities in the renewables, energy efficiency and infrastructure sectors. He received a BA in Economics & Management from Oxford University and did research at the Saïd Business School in the field of Strategic Management. Outside of the office, Sebastian is a keen chef and enjoys travelling with sub-Saharan Africa his next target.

William Orde
Investment Analyst
William is part of the investment management team, sourcing and screening potential deals across the communications, healthcare and sustainability sectors. Prior to joining Oxford Capital William gained experience in corporate finance with Aquaa Partners and in renewable energy production. He received a BA in Experimental and Theoretical Physics from Cambridge University, where he was treasurer of his college student union. In his spare time William is a keen chef, skier and hill walker.

James Faulkner
Manager, Private Clients
James is responsible for strengthening and extending Oxford Capital’s fundraising capability and works principally with our private investors and their advisors. With over 20 years experience of business development and relationship management, James most recently worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers.
James has a Diploma in Business Administration & Management from the Open University Business School. In his spare time, when he’s not walking the family dog, James enjoys keeping fit and regularly competes in triathlons

Simon Ruthers
Manager, Private Clients
Simon works with private clients and their advisers to access Oxford Capital’s investment programmes. He brings considerable experience of investment structure, tax and wealth management strategies. With over 15 years experience of the wealth management sector, Simon started his career with Rothschild Asset Management in Guernsey and most recently work for St. James’s Place Wealth Management. Simon graduated from Bournemouth University with a BA (Hons) in Financial Services and is an Associate of the Personal Finance Society. In his spare time, when not spending time with his young family, Simon enjoys motorsport and photography.

Lucy Foster
Head of Investor Services
Lucy is responsible for Investor Services and is also responsible for marketing and communications. Previously Lucy worked at Ennismore Fund Management, a hedge fund investing in European smaller companies. Lucy began her career working in private client services at Union Bancaire Privee and Morgan Stanley. Lucy graduated from Durham University with a BA in French. In her spare time Lucy enjoys playing tennis and golf and is a keen skier.

Will Laws
Manager, Investor Services
Will is responsible for Investor Services and communications and works within the marketing team. He started his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he qualified as a chartered accountant before moving into business development. He then joined the research team of Fast Track, an Oxford company which publishes league tables of fast-growth businesses in The Sunday Times. Most recently, he worked as commercial manager for the communications technology company Wireless Logic. He has a philosophy degree from the University of Durham, and outside work his interests including running, reading and cinema.

Paul Mattick
Manager, Investor Relations
Paul is responsible for Investor Relations, with particular focus on supporting the firm’s co-investors. Paul graduated from Leeds University and then completed a PhD in Cardiac Pharmacology at Oxford University. During his career he has combined scientific and entrepreneurial work, whilst at the same time pursuing life as an international athlete. He rowed for Great Britain at the Beijing Olympics and is a rowing World Champion. Paul has now retired from international competition but in his spare time he still enjoys social rowing, as well as walks in the country with family, friends and his dog.

John Gale
Investor Services
John is responsible for private client services and assists with corporate marketing and communications. He graduated in Engineering from Brookes University in Oxford and has a background in administrative support and customer service. John’s interests outside the office include climbing, hill-walking and photography.

Jonathon Quick
Financial Controller
Jonathon is responsible for financial management and business planning at Oxford Capital. He began his career in the audit department of an independent accountancy practice where he qualified as a chartered certified accountant and progressed to become audit manager. He then joined ValueClick Inc., a NASDAQ listed, online-marketing business, where he was responsible for the financial reporting and control of a European subsidiary. He also spent a year in Sierra Leone, heading up the finance and administration department of a charity. Jonathon has a Psychology degree from the University of Birmingham and his interests include travel, music and cinema.

Lucy Dighton
Head of Finance & Operations
Lucy coordinates the resources of the firm through managing the operations, administration, finance, technology and compliance functions. Lucy trained as a healthcare analyst with Oxford Capital and previously gained experience in technology management with Synaptics UK, a spin-off from Scientific Generics in Cambridge. Lucy graduated from the University of Oxford with a BA in Physiological Sciences and is a chartered member of the Institute for Securities and Investment. In her spare time Lucy enjoys working on her allotment and scuba diving.

Claire Maynard
Executive & Communications Assistant
Claire’s role is to provide support to the Directors, as well as assisting the Investor Services and Marketing teams. She graduated in Spanish and Marketing from the University of Stirling and also studied Marketing and Business at the University of Cantabria in Northern Spain. Claire’s interests outside of the office include archaeology, translation and music.

Rachel Guest
Office Assistant
Rachel assists the investment management team and provides office management support, working alongside Claire Ritchie. She graduated from York University with a Masters degree in Public Administration and Public Policy and a BA Hons in Politics. Her interests outside the office include going to the theatre and cooking.
