Private Equity Awards of the BVCA & Real Deals recognise Oxford Capital Partners’ contribution to the Venture Capital Sector

Private Equity Awards of the BVCA & Real Deals recognise Oxford Capital Partners’ contribution to the Venture Capital Sector.

Oxford, UK, 9th May 2006
Oxford Capital Partners, the Oxford based venture capital firm focused on science and technology companies, has again been recognised as a leader in the field of venture capital, this time by the Real Deals/BVCA Private Equity Awards.

The Awards, considered by many as one of the most prestigious of the annual awards ceremonies, were held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London at the end of April. These awards set the benchmark for excellence in UK private equity and represent one of the highest accolades for the UK industry’s dealmakers, advisers and bankers.

On an evening which focused heavily on the successes of large private equity firms there was some good news for the venture capital sector when Oxford Capital Partners was shortlisted for the ‘House of the Year’ Award alongside Phoenix Equity Partners, Matrix Group and 3i. Of the eleven award categories Oxford Capital Partners was the only pure venture firm to be selected by the judges.

On this particular occasion the final honour went to the mid-market management buy-out firm Phoenix Equity Partners but Oxford Capital Partners’ nomination reflects the successes of the firm over the past 12 months and pays testament to the ability of a specialist venture firm to make its mark in an industry dominated by large buy-out funds. As the only venture firm to make the shortlist in any award category the judges have effectively selected Oxford Capital Partners as the venture firm of choice.

The nomination recognises not only the successful investment strategy developed by Oxford Capital Partners, but also the rate and quality of deal making in 2005. The firm made 12 investments, making it one of the most active in its sector, and helped guide three of its portfolio companies to successful IPOs – Oxonica plc, Celoxica plc and Hardide plc. These achievements had earlier led to the firm being voted Venture Capital House of the Year at the Unquote awards in 2005.

According to Ted Mott, founder and CEO of Oxford Capital Partners, the prospects for European venture capital are brighter than ever. He went on to say, ‘There is growing awareness amongst serious investors of the importance of participating in technological progress. Great value can still be created by commercialising great European science and technology.’
