Oxford Capital makes two senior appointments

Oxford Capital Partners, the specialist investment manager, announced today that it has strengthened its team with two senior appointments to its board and investment team. The move reflects Oxford Capital’s ambitious plans, working in partnership with the world’s leading private capital investors to back exceptional growth companies around the world.

Martin Smith, the investment banking and private equity veteran, has joined the board as a Non-Executive Director. Bringing a wealth of experience, Martin is contributing to the strategic development of Oxford Capital’s investment management business. Martin founded and chaired Phoenix Securities, the investment banking and private equity firm, leading the firm to its eventual acquisition by DLJ. He was subsequently a founder shareholder of New Star Asset Management and a senior advisor to Bain Capital.  He is currently chairman of GP Bullhound the technology investment banking firm and Worldwide Healthcare Trust plc. Martin has a strong interest in sustainability, one of Oxford Capital’s core investment themes, and his family foundation has created and endowed the Smith School for Enterprise and the Environment at Oxford University. “My relationship with Oxford Capital started as an investor”, said Martin Smith, “and I have been impressed both by the commitment to building great companies as well as by the quality of their investor base. I look forward to assisting Oxford Capital to achieve its considerable potential.”

Ted Mott, co-founder and CEO of Oxford Capital, commented: “Our relationship with Martin has evolved over several years and we are delighted to welcome him to our board. He has an exceptional record of growing investment management businesses and we value his strategic and operational support.”

Andrew Sherlock, a former Managing Director at Dresdner Kleinwort, has joined Oxford Capital as Investment Director. Andrew has previously led Small Cap teams at both Dresdner Kleinwort and at Goldman Sachs and this follows an early career in industry with Mars and Procter & Gamble and as an analyst with Cazenove. Andrew brings many years of experience of working with smaller companies, both in research as well as advising businesses on accessing the capital markets. “Following many years in the City, it is apparent that some of the most talented management teams are turning to private capital to support their growth rather than the public markets,” said Andrew Sherlock. “It is a natural step to join Oxford Capital to support its growth capital investment strategy.”

David Mott, co-founder of Oxford Capital, said: “We are delighted to welcome Andrew into our senior team, following an outstanding career in the City. His broad experience in the capital markets and focus on the small cap sector adds to Oxford Capital’s capability for growing and supporting its portfolio companies. .
