Oxford Capital wins Investor of the Year at the New Energy Awards

Oxford Capital Partners won the Investor of the Year award at the New Energy Awards 2012, held at the Science Museum on 29 March.  Now in their fifth year, the New Energy Awards recognise and reward commitment to renewable energy and the sustainability sector.

The panel of 15 judges, including several fund managers, selected Oxford Capital out of a strong short list of investors to win the award, including Foresight Group and Octopus Investments.  Oxford Capital is one of the longest established cleantech investors in the UK and its investments span both growth capital and infrastructure projects.  In the last year it has invested over £20 million in renewable energy investments.

David Mott, Investment Director, Oxford Capital said:
“Investment in renewable energy works on many levels.  It provides capital to support the development of fast-growing innovative business which will create jobs and deliver economic growth.  It offers the potential for long-term capital growth to investors, who can access these businesses through tax efficient Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) investments.  It also makes a major contribution to combating man-made global warming through support for the development of new renewable energy sources.

“We are proud that our commitment to investment in renewables has been recognised at the New Energy Awards and we remain dedicated to long term investment in renewable energy infrastructure and related projects.”

Andrew Sherlock, Investment Director, Oxford Capital said:
“Oxford Capital has scaled up its renewables business and we have big plans for 2012. We have been delighted by the level of participation from investors in our infrastructure and growth capital funds.”

Recent investment in renewable by Oxford Capital include:

  • Growth capital: The latest addition to Oxford Capital’s portfolio is PowerOasis, a business which enables mobile network operators to monitor, manage and optimize the energy consumption of their network in regions where grid power is unreliable or unavailable. This primarily uses a mix of generator, solar, wind and battery sources. Oxford Capital co-led an investment round of £4.5m which closed in December.
  • Infrastructure: Oxford Capital has financed nearly £20m worth of solar installations which equates to roughly 6.5MW of capacity. This was installed on over 2,500 homes in the Southwest of the UK and will provide 5.8m kWh per year which should save over 2,000 tonnes of CO2 from being produced annually.
